Hi, I'm Yemisi.
Welcome to Eminent Coaching Academy.
On this page I'll like to share my professional journey and why I'm passionate about innovation, team leadership, project management and quality database development.
It is my goal to encourage you on your career and business path by sharing and empowering you with tools, techniques and tactics that guide strategic thinking and lead to better opportunities for you, your team, your loved ones, your school, business, and your community at large.
Let me tell you my story
I am originally from Nigeria, West Africa and I grew up in a middle-class family of 5. Dad was a project manager and Mom an elementary school teacher. As the oldest child, I received a lot of love and attention from a young age. This early experience taught me to pursue what I want.
Growing up in a Christian family, I learned and believed that everything is achievable with God. As a result, I would frequently take on challenges because I felt invincible.
When I was 18, I started university to study Civil Engineering. In a class of about 75 students, we were only 5 girls. It was tough and challenging. This was the time I learnt that it is not enough to want something, If you really want to succeed at anything, you have to make commitments to take the right actions. So, I studied really hard and gave it my all.
I didn't have a big social life because I'm an introvert, but I found joy in my love for numbers and analysis. I've always been a bit of a nerd, fascinated by building things and understanding how they work, the steps to create a project, finding solutions, and improving things.
This experience and background I believe, is what has led to my passion for supporting organizations that are creatively innovating outstanding products & services for all human benefits and for sustainability.
Following the norm
Now school was almost over, and everyone kept asking, who is the guy? When will you get married? As a young African woman it seemed like there was a set pattern that you have to follow, and if you don’t you will be a center of attention and used as a tool for continuous conversation.
As with the few ambitious people, I knew that I needed to set out a goal for myself. At this point in my life journey, I had a good understanding of what purpose meant and how it fits into creating a happy and fulfilled life. So I set out my goal and wrote down the steps I needed to take to achieve it. Guess what, it worked 💃💃💃
I met my husband Johnson, and for the first time in my life, I didn’t feel alone anymore, I had someone that shared my values and dreams. I also found that, we always have something to talk about.
In 2005, we decided to get married and it was perfect.
My yearning for more
In 2007 we relocated to South Africa from Nigeria, in search of greener pasture. I had my first daughter that same year and 3 years later a second daughter. Suddenly the responsibilities of caring for my kids overwhelmed me and I lost control over my career.
Instantly, I noticed that my finances were not aligning with my internal motivation and goals. There was never enough time to do all the stuff I wanted to get done and there were always so many unknowns -I could never make enough money without finding meaning for my life and adding value to others, which is what I am very good at.
Suddenly, fear totally gripped me. I knew something had to change, I knew I needed clarity and the right strategy. I even set out to do a master’s degree, and majored in environmental sustainability, because I refused to accept my status quo and the norm that every other immigrant was condescending to.
But was that enough?
No, it didn’t seem so, as life was getting tougher in South Africa, Johnson and I made another leap, and relocated to Canada. Maybe this is it…
Unexpected challenges - 🤔 I need to GROW
Settling down in Canada was worse than in South Africa. First barrier, my engineering degree was not recognized as viable, and as always, I followed what every other person was doing. - Get a survival job!
I remember having thoughts in my head like, "It’s better to be here than back home..." "You should be happy that you have better opportunities" and so much more...
But deep within me, I was not happy, because my life had no meaning. Although I was helping a nonprofit organization out, in reaching out to traumatized high risk youths, it did not maximize my strengths and potentials.
I knew deep within me, that I am a planner, a “get things done” person, I wanted more. I wanted to be more innovative and creative. I needed a place to build on my skills and grow to be my best self. While these were my deep thoughts, at that time it didn’t seem like there was something I could do about it. Needless to say, I now had 3 kids with my son arriving early 2013.
Then one day, as I was sitting and reflecting on my couch, I remembered my dad's favorite phrase "in life has to take responsibility and choose to always carry their cross". Suddenly I saw truth in that statement, choosing to take initiative will help me learn about my capability and identify who else I could reach out to for help.
Your desired breakthrough will show up when you take action on the right priorities. Growth is not automatic, it is intentional.
Freedom and Family are
two of my Top values
I like this new version of me because I am able to complete my projects on time and work more efficiently with my clients. I also have enough time to spend outdoors with my husband and kids, not worrying about money, project deliverables and the number of email reminders to send to my team.
To me freedom means, I am able to add value to others using my unique strength of creative thinking, objective expert level facilitation and problem solving skills - while at the same time remaining true to myself.
I believe that when it comes to making major life decisions, it's important to have all the information you need, to make the best choice. But with so many variables to consider, and lots of information pulling at us from all corners, it can be hard to know where to start.
That's where my services come in. We collaborate with organizations seeking to enhance employee involvement to remain competitive in their respective fields by selecting a team of leaders to create, develop, and lead the survey process. While also developing a database warehouse to help pinpoint recommendations and areas for long term growth.
Looking back at the past two decade - filled with failures, successes and many learning opportunities, I am motivated now more than ever before that individuals and organizations, need an increase in scientific and innovative research & development to make them better and to create a positive impact on the lives of others.
You need efficient project tools to cultivate successful teams. You also need to leverage the right tools, tips, tactics, and solutions, to avoid past mistakes and learn to operate your business with efficiency and success. All my career life I have been fascinated by science, technology and getting things done. My long-term goal is to help and support teams in experimentation using the creative thinking model, to successfully navigate digital transformation and change management.
The changes and challenges that our world is facing today require us as individuals to be proactive and intentional in building and designing our success both in life and business. As a scientist and project manager, I am always looking for ways to innovate new products and improve processes through strategic planning and organizational development.
Through my blog I am motivated to use my skills and experience to make a difference in the world, by promoting solutions and products that matter. My goal is to help you answer this question, Is there a better way?
